Jacintha van der Plas

Jacintha has been committed to the SEN foundation for quite a few years now. In 2013 (after graduation from MSC in 2012), she started as a freelance writer for the foundation and wrote scientific articles for the book ‘100 chances’ (to be published) (e.g. about the plastic soup, alleviation of poverty etc.). For the book ‘Safe Areas‘, she wrote a scientific chapter about the UN intervention in Cambodia. In the beginning of 2016, the Director of the Sen Foundation, Joris Voorhoeve asked her if she wanted to become a member of the board, fulfilling the position of secretary, an offer which she enthusiastically accepted.

While she was a freelance writer for the SEN Foundation, she had several other freelance writing assignments. E.g. on the remittances market in the Netherlands. In 2014 she moved to South-East Asia for roughly 4 months to complete a project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,  regarding creating awareness about HIV/aids among youth. It was an incredible experience that taught her a lot about working in a different cultural environment and about projects in general. After her return to the Netherlands she started working for a consultancy company for which she fulfilled several positions at several municipalities and semi-government organisations. To name a few: management assistant, project officer regarding safety and environment, communications officer regarding sustainability, project leader regarding integral sustainability. Her career has taken her to many different places, organisations and positions and she wants to further maintain this versatility within the future.
