Javid Ibad

Javid has joined the Sen Foundation in October 2018 as a Research Associate. His research is focusing on sustainable cities. As cities will be more and more populated in the upcoming decades, he draws attention to the success stories of sustainable urban environments and is deeply involved in researching the upcoming possibilities for their improvement.

He graduated from Leiden University in July 2018 and he holds an MSc (Master of Science) degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. In addition, he holds a BSc (Bachelor of Science) degree in Political Science from Baku State University. His professional experience includes multi-faceted activities. After years of experience within various civil society institutions in his hometown Baku, he worked as an intern at the International Dialogue on Underwater Munitions, an environmental NGO based in the Hague. Also, he is politically active and acted as an observer during the Dutch General Elections in 2017, and as a campaigner for D66 during the Dutch Municipal Elections in 2018.

For his master thesis, he conducted a quantitative analysis of the right-wing populism support in the Dutch national borders (click here to read the document). A visual puzzle observed by him led to one of the first academic papers on a scarcely analysed topic. Javid can speak six languages (Azerbaijani, Russian, Turkish, English, German, and Dutch) which give him a lot of benefits as a researcher. He is highly interested in Eastern European politics, human rights issues, as well as in democratization and electoral institutions.
