Jihad extremism in North-Africa
In contrast with the enormous international interest and attention for the Middle East and Afghanistan, little consideration is given to the rise of jihad extremism in North-Africa. Since the start of the 21st century, a network has been operating in Algeria under the name “Al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb” (AQIM). This network has branches in other countries as well, such as Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Chad.
